After graduation I attended 2 years of college at CSC, now UNC, in Greeley as history major thanks to Mr. Bradley’s influence. I was the sophomore class President -- had way too much fun -- 1.8 grade point average 2nd quarter. Enlisted in the Army, June 1969. I think my draft number was in the 100’s so I didn't wait. I went through basic training at Fort Campbell Kentucky (ahhh the red clay of Kentucky) then helicopter maintenance school, CH-47’s, Fort Eustis VA, basic and advanced courses -- graduated top in the class and was awarded E-5 stripes. From there it was 19 months in RVN with the 243rd ASH helicopter company. I was a Maintenance Team Leader for 3 months Lead Tech Inspector for 5 months and a Flight Engineer for 4 months. They stood down the unit and I ended up with the 361st AWC - Cobra gunships at Camp Holloway Pleiku RVN as a Lead Tech Inspector for the remaining 7 months of my tour. Got out on December 24, 1971 -- A VERY Merry Christmas! I returned to College and graduated with BA in Elementary Ed from UNC. Got married, the first time and taught in Greeley public schools. 5 years elementary -- fifth & sixth grade and 5 years middle school -- 6th and 7th grade before I got my MA in Educational Media with an emphasis on computer education. Divorced the first time after 13 years of sheer joy?!? I spent 3 years at Heath Junior High running the media & computer center and then 1 year as a middle school assistant principal. Burned out! I joined a start-up printed circuit board, cable and harness manufacturing company -- Startronics in 1987. Got married the second time 1986 and moved to Carlsbad/Vista CA. I was RIF’d in 1989 and we moved to Grants NM -- High school media Center and District media coordinator for a year or two. My wife was in the NG and went to Desert Storm while I messed up being a single parent to her two kids. Finally moved back to Denver. My twin brother Bill died in 1994 from diabetes and it’s complications after 28 years... he was 44 -- he just finally had had enough! I was divorced 1995 -- the second one she died a year later of heart failure. I ended up working for Centerline Circuits in Longmont, a PC board manufacturer as a Quality & Test Technician. After a couple of years I worked my way up to becoming the Quality Assurance Manager 1997. Hmm got married the third time 1996 -- literally to the girl next door. My father Died in 1997 -- mostly from cancer, he was 84. Centerline was acquired by Advanced Circuits of Aurora in 2000, closed Longmont in ‘01 and I got divorced the third time -- She changed the rules mid-stream! I'm currently Quality Systems & Training Manager with Advanced Circuits - now the 4th largest circuit board manufacturer in the US. I moved back into my parents’ house to care for my mother in 2001. She ended up in a long term care facility for dementia for a few years before passing away in 2011.I bought the house and have been renovating it ever since … I think I have most of the dates or years, right -- not that it really matters. |
