What's Up?:
One day I'm sitting on my balcony, at home in New Orleans, playing blues guitar, then the next, I'm running away to Jackson, with a laptop, a couple of my better guitars, two cats and a two day change of warm weather clothes. Holly, my wife, and I were just a few hours in front of a great storm. A couple of days later, in Jackson, after the rubble was cleared away, and phone and media started to slowly return, it became clear that driving to Denver may be my best option. So, here I am, back in sunny but frigid Denver. Colorado is lovely, but it's still the artistic/musical wasteland that I left behind several years ago. When I left here, Denver was all about giant SUVs and large multilevel beige tract homes. Now the SUVs are even larger and the tract homes more pervasive. Oh well, here I am, till I can go home again.
Interests?:
I studied art and graphic design at CSU, and later at Art Center, and now I am an artist, graphic artist, web designer/programmer, software developer and a musician. I used to teach at the college level, but now I paint and sell oil paintings that are generally large and brightly colored cubist or impressionist landscapes, figurative scenes, or still-life. I also play rock, jazz, bluegrass, blues and classical guitar and have played professionally. My only real hobby is perhaps my interest in Cornish Rex cats and Whippet dogs. I normally have several of this unique breed of cats & one whippet to hang out with. I have been married three times, and I have a son from the first. He lives in Seattle. No grand children yet, and I'm not holding my breath.
Occupation? (or former occupation):
I own a web design and graphic design company called www.artzdesign.com, and I have painted and played guitar professionally. I was a College instructor for several years. Check out my paintings here - www.richallenstudio.com
Memories from High School:
Most of my high school memories were either irrelevant, or vanquished from memory by college extra curricular. I do remember as a freshman, being stalked by some giant senior, who got his jollies by beating up little people. Wasn't high school wonderful!!! I also remember taking a lot of crap for my car. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that I was the only Wheat Ridge graduate of all time who ever drove a 1959 Simca Aronde (french car) to school.
More WRHS Memories ... :
The senior mentioned above, was also a football guy who had to quit in the middle of the season with a broken foot. Hmm, I'm not saying that I had anything to do with that, but if you are going to threaten the occupants of a car, don't stand in front of the car. That would be very dumb.
