Colorado Springs CO 2017-06-05 15:22:45

Sister Clare Carr, OSB

Sister Clare Carr’s scripture quotation, “See I am about to do a new thing” -Isaiah 43:19, reflects the sacred journey she underwent upon her selection as prioress elect for Benet Hill Monastery.  Her reverence for people and community is also reflected as she lives her vows of monastic life through following the Rule of St. Benedict.  Sister Clare says, “I believe in the call we all have to become creative and loving human beings- fully human and fully alive.”

Sister Clare began her vowed monastic life in 1974.  She is the oldest of five children and grew up in the Denver area from age eleven.  She received her Masters in Theological Studies from St. Meinrad’s School of Theology in St. Meinrad, Indiana, and her Masters in Counseling from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.  She has worked at MDS Counseling Center— Maria Droste in Denver for the past ten years.  She loves people, listening to their life journey and the insightfulness and wisdom they share.  Much of Sister Clare’s gift is reverencing others as she journeys with them through pain, sorrow, loss, joy and new life.

The other “fun-loving side” to Sister Clare is conveyed in her red hair and bouncy personality.  She brings a sense of delight and humor to everyone she encounters and in everything she does.  A favorite with youth, she has served as youth director for parishes in the Lakewood/Denver area and Holy Trinity here in Colorado Springs.  Closer to home, she directed Benet Hill Center, the monastery’s vocations program and co-directed Benet Pines Retreat Center.  Never afraid to ask the tough, challenging questions, she has often been heard on the phone listening to a distraught counselee or helping someone in need find resources.

As she speaks about her love relationship with God, Sister Clare says it is “the most certain relationship in my life” and I found that this love relationship is to be lived out through the Rule of Benedict with this beautiful monastic community. Living obedience, poverty, chastity, stability and conversion of life” are ways of expressing her love relationship with God.  Sister Clare also nurtures herself through nature and gardening—seeing the “beauty that surrounds us in creation.”  She loves to hike and used to run thirty miles per week.

Sister Clare was installed as Prioress, June 2011, “I know my plans for you; they are plans for peace and not disaster, to give you a future with hope.” As current prioress, Sister Clare focuses on supporting and implementing the Direction Statements of the community.  She does this in conjunction with the monastic council as they look to fulfilling their dreams as community.  Sister Clare will plan for increased housing for the sisters and sustainability in all areas.  She also hopes to work with the community as they pursue ongoing vocation and formation work to increase membership in the community.  She has a vision of new vowed membership and other creative forms of membership.  She will reach out to younger populations and involve them more in understanding the call to monastic life.  We promise to pray for all your concerns and intentions, especially in this time and history we all share.

Boulder CO Married 3 I've been in Boulder for a long time. I met my husband in the dorm in 1967 and we are celebrating our 45th in August. We have 3 kids, ages 35, 30 & 27. We owned a printing company for 20 years in Boulder and after we sold it, I went back to CU to (finally) get my degree. I finished with a business major and got my masters in tax. I've been a CPA specializing in small business & tax preparation for 19 years and I work for myself. My husband and daughter work for our business too. Son & daughter live in Denver, our youngest daughter lives in Boulder married to a great guy from New Zealand - she is back at CU getting her masters in tax and studying for CPA exam. She works for me part time. No grandchildren yet. We enjoy our kids and like to go to Cape Cod (Massachusetts) and we enjoy lots that Boulder has to offer. Love going to Rockies games and of course love the Broncos. CPA - late bloomer - went back to CU and got my degree in my mid-40's! Never too old to reinvent yourself. My Edsel burning up in the parking lot at the end of senior year & the best part was that Patti Jubrias and I were ditching school (there was probably someone else with us, like maybe Joyce Holmes.) When I got to choir, Mr. Dalton had the class sing "there'll be a hot time in the old town tonight." Parents not happy - not easy to find a replacement seat for an Edsel! Also, football games, drill team, deafening basketball games in the gym, the cheerleaders doing their fabulous gymnastics down the length of the gym floor. I loved it all - especially my girlfriends - Polly, Judy R, Joyce, Patti, Marla, Anne L. to name just a few! Lastly, being a member of the singing group The Sodbusters - yes we really did exist!! You other members know who you are! Dare I say drinking beer? Going to Coors Brewery with our pathetically obvious fake id's? All the teachers and coaches - sitting next to Candy in Mr. Mahaffey's French class. We weren't that close in high school, but we went to CU together, lived in the same dorm complex and became very close friends for the next 40 years. But how lucky were we all???? 2017-06-05 15:06:08

Littleton CO Married 3 Living in Littleton since 1989, married 38 years to Linda, a retired School Administrator. I retired from banking in 2014, the last 16 years were with Colorado Business Bank. Life is good. My children are Cameron, Courtney, and Lindsey. Courtney and Lindsey were star athletes at Chatfield High. Courtney was Jeffco 5A MVP in Track and Lindsey was All State Colorado in Soccer and played for Univ Nebraska. In total I have 5 grandchildren, Casey, Walker, Gwyn, Sheamus, and Declan. Also 2 very newer great grandchildren to Casey. Running, fly fishing, hunting, and wildlife/sportsmen advocacy. Beyond high school I ran winter track one year at Western State, but college, girls, and just having fun won out. Outside of college I ran for fun the next 4 decades, and for a while did four marathons. My entire working career I served on various non profit boards, and a surprise to me was Colorado Non Profit Assn. awarding me their William Funk Award for Building Community in 1993. My last rodeo in non profits is likely Colorado Wildlife Federation where I am current President. I also now serve on Colorado Parks and Wildlife's "Sportsmen Roundtable". Wildlife advocacy is important, and includes occasionally testifying at the legislature on matters of public lands, wildlife/fisheries, and sportsmen matters. Commercial Banking with Colorado Business Bank. From the early 1970s to 2015 my banking career extended from Alaska back to Colorado. Banking small businesses was what I gravitated too, and my focus was closely held businesses of all sorts. Coach Cooper who became my inspiration in life. While high school Cross Country and Track was formative to me, one challenge in high school was teachers signing whether or not I would stay eligible. In college the 'light bulb' of learning and studies finally turned on and I became an excellent student attaining undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business. I give 100% credit for whatever success I realized in life to Coach Coop. On a whim Bob Moore, Terry Ten Eyck and I thought out a celebration for Coach Don Cooper, and in the early 2000s that vision materialized in a reunion of Coop athletes at Lakewood Country Club celebrating his 12 years coaching CC and Track at Wheat Ridge, and a couple more years he coached at Cherry Creek. The celebration of Coach Cooper was emotional, and for me certainly one of the best moments of my entire life. My best friend Russ Mallander and a few others of my friends in Russ's 1954 Chevy 'peeling out' on the concrete in front of the High School, plus doing a few 'donuts' on the infield. 2017-05-30 09:50:23

Dallas TX Married 2 Graduated from Univ. of Texas (71) and Baylor Dental School (74). Love practicing Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry. Enjoy traveling with my family. Married to Dr. Honor Franklin for 39 years. We have two children. A son Hahn,28, in commercial real estate and a daughter, Sullivan,25, who is in advertising. I moved the middle of my sophomore year from sunny California, where I was Class President, to WR in the dead of winter and I did not know a single person. I was miserable at first but I quickly made friends with so many great WR classmates. One of my best memories was of Donnie Stathis who befriended me immediately and since we were neighbors and I did not have a car (nor any idea how to drive in the snow and ice!), he picked me up in his truck before school everyday and we shared a lot of fun stories. I have great memories of my teammates in football and track when we won State Championships in both. This was no doubt due to the great coaching by Coach Red Coats and Coach Don Cooper who pushed us to the limits to be the best we could be because they believed in us. I will always have the utmost respect for both of them and I'm proud to have known such strong and fair role models. 2017-05-07 23:50:24

Kodiak AK Married 4 This is the first time I have had any contact with a high school reunion. I figured that after 50 years it might be interesting to see how life has been treating everyone. I have four children, my two daughters reside in Washington State, one son lives in California, for some reason, and the other lives in Alaska. I have six beautiful grandchildren, my four boys live in Washington and my two girls in Alaska. My current interest revolve around my grand children and our commercial salmon fishing operation. I have retired from 33 years of school teaching in various grades and villages on Kodiak Island. Our family spends the summers in Olga Bay on the south end of Kodiak Island commercial salmon fishing. Most of my high school memories are somewhat dimmed by the passing years. I do remember riding in a death trap Corvair that Andy Pietrafeso fishtailed through some poor homeowners yard, and various girls that I never had the courage to ask out. My to do list consists of building our new remote fish camp cabin, a second home in Manchester WA. and catching 200,000 lbs. of sockeye in a season. 2017-04-30 20:47:47

Denver CO Married 2 I retired in December, 2014 after working as an English Language Acquisition Specialist, Reading Specialist and International Baccalaureate Coordinator in Aurora Public Schools. Kerry and I love to go to my granddaughter's soccer games. I think she likes him more than me! We also try to spend a lot of time with his 93 year old mother who still lives in the family house in Wheat Ridge. I spend a lot of time with my son Greg, his wife Jessica and their daughter, Lily,7,who live in Denver. Also, I visit my daughter, MacKenzie, in Los Angeles or wherever she is performing. She has been an actress for 20 years, is married and has an 8 month old baby boy, Jack. Since I married Kerry Hada, I have been loving life with him. He is full of surprises and makes me laugh a lot. I have been teaching in a program at DU for Japanese teachers for many, many years, so he and I have a lot in common given his heritage and my love of the culture. We went to Japan after we got married and visited his family and my friends there. Right now, I am just enjoying working out and tutoring kids. The organic honesty of little kids makes me laugh every day. My favorite of all time was from a 5 year old who asked, "How did you get so old?" I have a few degrees and have travelled a lot in Asia and Europe. When we had some kind of assembly in the auditorium one year where they were demonstrating a polygraph machine. Freddie got called up to be the demonstrator and when they asked him if he had a girlfriend, the needle went off the charts. It was so amazing. I asked Kerry Hada to have lunch with me on April 9, 2015. We did and then he asked me out and we are now married. He is an awesome man and a true patriot. Living a long time with Kerry and being able to see my children and grandchildren as often as possible. 2017-02-20 22:31:25

Largo FL Divorced 1 Hi Everyone! How fast the years have gone. I'm in the middle of a move from the Florida panhandle to Largo (in the St. Petersburg/Tampa area). I've purchased a camper van to go on the road doing genealogy. Looking to do more traveling if I can ever get out of all the chaos. I married at 20, divorced a few years later and never remarried. I have a 45 year old daughter who is married with 4 children (3 boys and one girl. The oldest is in college. 4 of my 5 younger brothers (all WR grads) all still live in the Denver area and the other lives in Omaha. My parents (90 and 87) live in Wheat Ridge. I've dabbled in a lot over the years...organizing horse shows, car shows, air shows, a fan club for a singer; writing (but not published); to name a few. Still heavily involved in genealogy and DNA testing. Love living on the Gulf in glorious weather. I was a computer programmer and project manager. Most of the time was spent at Security Life of Denver (an ING company) and Computer Science Corp (CSC). CSC laid me off at age 60 and hired my replacement in India, so I slid into retirement. Work was always in my way anyway. Just had one semester of college. Love to travel. 1999 I spent 77 days going around the world, most of which was spent in the South Pacific. It was a memorable trip. I spent my high school years riding and showing horses and didn't do many WR activities. I wish I had gone to Prom. Were there a lot of people who didn't go to Prom? Maybe someday we could have an alumni prom :-) I sat in front of Freddie in one of my classes and remember him coming in on crutches on Monday after playing the previous Friday game on an ankle he had broken in practice the previous week. It was the last time I remember talking to him. He was special. Publishing a book, punch through genealogy brick walls, learn to play the drums, get to Italy, get back to France, spend a year in Great Britain, travel around Australia. 2017-02-15 16:07:04
Thanks to all of you who spend countless hours planning our events and keeping everyone in touch.  Your hard work is greatly appreciated.  If I can do anything to help at the reunion, my hand is held up.

My best to all,

Cherie

Wheat Ridge CO Single Surviving Photography Quality Systems Manager Daisy 2016-09-28 23:40:07
After graduation I attended 2 years of college at CSC, now UNC, in Greeley as history major thanks to Mr. Bradley’s influence. I was the sophomore class President -- had way too much fun -- 1.8 grade point average 2nd quarter. Enlisted in the Army, June 1969. I think my draft number was in the 100’s so I didn't wait. I went through basic training at Fort Campbell Kentucky (ahhh the red clay of Kentucky) then helicopter maintenance school, CH-47’s,  Fort Eustis VA, basic and advanced courses -- graduated top in the class and was awarded E-5 stripes. From there it was 19 months in RVN with the 243rd ASH helicopter company. I was a Maintenance Team Leader for 3 months Lead Tech Inspector for 5 months and a Flight Engineer for 4 months. They stood down the unit and I ended up with the 361st AWC - Cobra gunships at Camp Holloway Pleiku RVN as a Lead Tech Inspector for the remaining 7 months of my tour. Got out on December 24, 1971 -- A VERY Merry Christmas! I returned to College and graduated with BA in Elementary Ed from UNC. Got married, the first time and taught in Greeley public schools. 5 years elementary -- fifth & sixth grade and 5 years middle school -- 6th and 7th grade before I got my MA in Educational Media with an emphasis on computer education. Divorced the first time after 13 years of sheer joy?!? I spent 3 years at Heath Junior High running the media & computer center and then 1 year as a middle school assistant principal. Burned out! I joined a start-up printed circuit board, cable and harness manufacturing company -- Startronics in 1987. Got married the second time 1986 and moved to Carlsbad/Vista CA. I was RIF’d in 1989 and we moved to Grants NM -- High school media Center and District media coordinator for a year or two. My wife was in the NG and went to Desert Storm while I messed up being a single parent to her two kids. Finally moved back to Denver. My twin brother Bill died in 1994 from diabetes and it’s complications after 28 years... he was 44 -- he just finally had had enough! I was divorced 1995 -- the second one she died a year later of heart failure. I ended up working for Centerline Circuits in Longmont, a PC board manufacturer as a Quality & Test Technician. After a couple of years I worked my way up to becoming the Quality Assurance Manager 1997. Hmm got married the third time 1996 -- literally to the girl next door. My father Died in 1997 -- mostly from cancer, he was 84. Centerline was acquired by Advanced Circuits of Aurora in 2000, closed Longmont in ‘01 and I got divorced the third time -- She changed the rules mid-stream! I'm currently Quality Systems & Training Manager with Advanced Circuits - now the 4th largest circuit board manufacturer in the US. I moved back into my parents’ house to care for my mother in 2001. She ended up in a long term care facility for dementia for a few years before passing away in 2011.I bought the house and have been renovating it ever since … I think I have most of the dates or years, right -- not that it really matters.
